The European Union is investing in and promoting safety on road
with the aim to reduce fatalities. Lately the interest is moving towards
new strategy to make safer roads by making the roads more
intelligent.
The evolution of intelligent road is only possible thanks to the use of
ITS technology that can be used economically with a minimal environment
impact, and most of all, easy application.
Intelligent road are able to provide precautionary measures, guaranteeing
a continuous and real time control of the safety levels assured
by the road network equipped with the technology.
Since Snoline is always attentive to the market requests, Snoline
has been investigating concepts to equip its products to provide not
only mechanical and physical protection for road users but also to
provide continous status reports real time.
For this reason Snoline is collaborating with SISTRA, a spin off of a
research project that was created to develop intelligent barriers, to install a new concept called GRAPE
on its S-A-B Grate, TAU Crash Cushion and X-TensionTerminal.
GRAPE is a modular node for the timely detection of abnormal events, and to monitor of traffic conditions
and environmental concerns. GRAPE is able to detect collisions into crash cushion, gates or terminals,
diagnose the intensity and location of the impact, and to detect ambient and temperatures conditions.
The PCM module is equipped with GSM / GPRS modem and, in case of an impact, transfers crash data
(via SMS).
Once again Snoline found an important and innovative solution that meets the requirements of safety
and reliability necessary in the road infrastructure world.
Geom. Igino Lai and Ing. Marco Pelliciardi, respectively General Manager and Foreman Road Network and
Maintaining Sector of the company Strada dei Parchi A24-A25, Rom-l’Aquila-Teramo and Rom-Pescara,
who are accountable for roads in Abruzzo and Lazio, have decided to install crash cushions equipped with
GRAPE for a test period.
They are confident that GRAPE can provide significant long-lasting value that this company wants to offer
to its road users.
