Action 1: Professional training through refresher courses on “Techniques for safety in urban areas”, for graduates and technical experts working in the field. The courses illustrate the various issues concerning road safety and ways to address them.

Action 2: Public awareness campaign to promote the “Living and walking in cities” International Conference that annually addresses issues relating to the safety and quality of life in urban areas.
The Conference, organized in conjunction with other universities and with contributions from various organizations and authorities, is aimed at researchers, designers and technicians and provide an opportunity for discussions on key issues and future prospects for cities.
The initiative recently won a prize during Lombardy’s First Regional Day on Road Safety.

Action 3: Training of university students to promote “Lessons on safety in urban areas” whose purpose is to enable students, graduate students and researchers to meet with international experts to discuss safety and liveability issues connected with the urban environment.

Action 4: Scientific research in Working groups at the OECD’s International Transport Forum (ITF) – Pedestrian Safety, Urban Space and Health (PUSH), Cycling Safety.

Action 5: Scientific research for local administrations on:
- accident rates of two-wheeled transport
- safety of heavy goods vehicles
- local public transport safety

The method used is typical of scientific research in general:
- production of research reports on data and issues
- public information material (leaflets)
- in-depth information material
- case studies

The indicators used will be:
- those connected with monitoring safety during the action
- the number of people reached by the information and educational campaigns

The actions will be carried out:
- training courses to be repeated annually
- research tasks as set out in the individual projects, usually in cycles lasting two/three years.
