This Annual Statistical Report, published by the European Road Safety Observatory, provides the basic characteristics of road accidents in 25 European Union Member States for the 1996-2005 period. It provides annual statistics for the number of fatalities, accidents resulting in injury, and injured people within the EU-25 during that period, as well as more detailed analyses, such as the distribution of male and female fatalities, the distribution of fatalities according to mode of transport and the number of child and senior fatalities per million inhabitants of each Member State.

More specific statistics highlight the importance of variables such as time of day, area, road infrastructure and weather conditions in relation to fatal road accidents.
