Action 1
CD-based campaign to raise awareness about driving and rest time.
We want to raise awareness about this problem, regulated by new legislation introduced by the European Parliament and European Council (Reg. 561/2006). Therefore, we intend to hand out 1,000 CDs with information and calculation tools to plan the driving times of motorists, giving examples of how they work and why it is important to comply with the regulation. The CDs will be handed out to transport business employees responsible for motorists and the shift plans of drivers. They need to make sure that drivers will not be under too much pressure (time-wise) en route and plan their journeys carefully in accordance with the EU legislation.
Date: May - June 2007, to be continued depending on results.
Action 2
Training and seminars about safer and efficient driving, targeted at drivers and employees in the transport business. The training sessions will be free of charge or at a reduced cost for all participants. We are planning about 20 training sessions comprising approximately 25 participants each, thus an overall total of some 500 drivers.
Action 3
Writing articles for our magazine, On Tour, which is issued quarterly (about 100,000 readers). The magazine will deal with topics such as medical treatment and healthcare for drivers en route. Such medical treatment en route will probably be called DocStop. Drivers and motorists who fall ill, but have to deliver on time, rarely have medicine in their trucks, and even more rarely go to the doctor for a decent medical check-up. Therefore, they are often ill behind the wheel. As such, we will increase awareness through magazine articles of DocStop along German motorways in order to make the roads safer. Our platform, the On Tour magazine, would appear to be ideal in order to meet these objectives.
Action 4
Information to members of our UTA Club (about 10,000 members, including drivers, their families, employees and other road users) about the driving and rest time campaign (action1) and other road safety aspects through our website and Internet links.
