FOT! - Fotgängarnas Förening
Sweden | Association
FOT is a non-governmental and non-political organisation of individuals. The members constitute the decision-making organ with an elected executive board. Association Sweden (FOT) is working hard for pedestrians with the goal of recapturing their stolen living spaces and building for a pedestrian friendly more human urban environment. In particular, attention should be addressed to the needs of the more vulnerable in society, including: children, the elderly and the disabled.
The organisation has 100 individual and 9 professional members
Selbstverpflichtung
We are committing to the European Road Safety Charter by following programme:
Objectives
o Raising awareness about risks and problems affecting the pedestrians
o Disseminating knowledge and research results and experiences for improvement of the conditions of walking
Methods
-Seminars and workshops:
The seminars will vary in size and are targeted to the public or members. The focus is always on pedestrians but try to cover different fields of research, such as; technical i.e. improvements to the infrastructure, statistical i.e. risk of accidents and their consequences and psychological i.e. motives for walking.
-Surveys concerning provisions made for pedestrians:
The county councils invite FOT to carry out a survey of their existing infrastructure who then suggests how it can be improved. FOT has already conducted several surveys and developed a method for making these assessments which has been published widely.
-Co-operates with other organisations with similar interests:
This could be joint seminars or proposals to make improvements for pedestrians.
Keep up to date with current research.
This knowledge is presented at seminars or on FOT's webpage but is also used in our work to promote the interests of pedestrians.
Formal responses to proposals made by the Government or the local council.
Tools
-A webpage: This is currently being updated and will include useful information to members. In addition to the activities carried out by FOT, it will also include information about other relevant issues such as recent publications.
-Leaflets: The ambition has been to distribute two leaflets a year to members. It includes news about FOT and issues related to pedestrians.
-Reports: Each survey conducted is published in a report.
