ACPOS SUMMER DRINK DRIVING CAMPAIGN RESULTS
As the Summer Drink Drive Campaign concludes, it is clear the message about the dangers of driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs does not appear to be getting through.
 
 
 

During the two-week campaign coordinated by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS), police forces across Scotland have been carrying out high profile and unmarked patrols to target those risking their lives and the lives of others.
 
The campaign which began on 6 June saw 116 people reported for drink driving in the first week. An additional three were detected whilst unfit through alcohol and 16 were unfit through drugs. Four repeat offenders were detected and consideration is being given by the court to seize their vehicle.
 
Over the last seven days, 122 people have been reported for drink driving, an additional four were detected whilst unfit through alcohol and six were unfit through drugs. Five repeat offenders were detected and consideration is being given by the court to seize their vehicle.
 
This brings the two week campaign total to 238 reported for drink driving, an increase of 26 compared with last year’s campaign. In addition seven were detected whilst unfit through alcohol, an increase of one and 21 were unfit through drugs an increase of 16. Eight repeat offenders were detected and consideration is being given by the court to seize their vehicles.
