Road Safety Seminar Dedicated in the memory of Danny Galvin
With great success, on Wednesday 30 May 2012, an education Road Safety Seminar, dedicated in the memory of Danny Galvin, was held at CTC Head Office premises.
In front of a crowd of more than a hundred persons, employees of Shacolas Group Companies and other guests, several speakers enlightened the attendees through their presentations on the subject. The speakers were Police Lieutenant Charis Evripidou from Traffic Department of the Cyprus Police Headquarters, Mr Marios Panayiotou, Health and Safety Officer at MTN Cyprus, Mr Michalis Hadjigeorgiou, journalist from Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Marios Stavrou, President of the non-profit Organization Reaction along with Ms Elena Chemonidou, Mr Demetris Zagoulos, Unit Manager of Scania Cyprus and Mr Xenis Demosthenous, Manager of CE4Tachotech Ltd.
Mr Marios Loucaides, Managing Director of CTC, after welcoming and thanking the co-organizers, speakers and guests, noted that: “From the first to the second 5 month period of 2011 a decrease of 87.5% on over speeding in motorways among company cars of Argosy Trading Company Ltd was recorded. This decrease was achieved through the use of advanced technologies and systems in the field of Fleet Management”. Mr Loucaides then noted that on top of that, a general decrease in road incidents in comparison to past years was also noticed among company vehicles, while 2011 saw a decrease of 24% in comparison to 2010. He concluded his speech with a great goal: reducing road incidents with company vehicles to a minimum.
The Seminar was dedicated in the loving memory of ex-colleague Danny Galvin, previous General Manager of Larnaca and Paphos Airports Duty Free Shops, who lost his life at the age of 43, on a tragic accident at Larnaca, last May.

The presentations of the Seminar were structured and prepared based on an internal questionnaire that was handed out to Group employees about a month before the event. Actual practice with vehicle followed the presentations.
CTC is committed since 15 June 2009 upon signing the European Road Safety Charter and since then aims to train and grow awareness among Group Employees and public, in the field of Road Safety, so that Group, European and international goals are met.

Co-organizers of the Seminar were Argosy Trading Company Ltd, Non-profit Organization Reaction and Supporters were Traffic Department of Cyprus Police Headquarters, Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, MTN Cyprus, Scania and Iveco Cyprus, CE4Tachotech Ltd and Cyprus Road Safety Board.
