Zlin - City of Zlin (Statutární město Zlín)
Czech Republic | Local/public authority
The city of Zlín (78,599 inhabitants) is the capital of the Zlín region in the central eastern part of the historic region of Moravia (Czech Republic).
Compromiso
The Zlín town council has undertaken, between 2006 and 2008, to reduce the number of offences due to failure to observe the road signs and the speed limit by placing surveillance cameras in the critical spots.
With the aim of measuring the speed of the vehicles, we shall be introducing cameras in the four black spots in the town for accidents caused by speeding.
To control drivers ignoring signs, we shall be introducing surveillance cameras at the three most critical junctions. The cameras can also measure the speed of vehicles between the junctions.
We intend to set up a system to help move the cameras at these places.
Along the main highway I/49 there are heavy traffic jams and this situation causes a large number of accidents. To solve this critical problem, we undertake to guarantee the flow of traffic using optical fibre to link the traffic lights at the junctions along this thoroughfare. We shall also enable the Czech police to intervene in the system in order to solve crisis situations in the town in real time.
Through these measures we hope to reduce the number of accidents by 25%. In cooperation with the Czech police we will be producing road accident statistics twice a year and publishing them in the monthly Magazín Zlín.
