The CTA is a national charity providing leadership, learning and enterprise support to a wide range of organisations delivering innovative and flexible transport solutions to achieve social change in their communities.
The CTA administer a number of driver and passenger assistant training schemes designed to make appropriate training, assessment and accreditation available for voluntary sector organisations, local authorites, care providers and educational establishments.

As part of our commitment to road safety and to the European Road Safety Charter will continue to run our training schemes for the coming three years.
The training schemes which we administer have refresher training built in. This allows for any updates in the law or good practice which might have come in since their last training course as well as being able to address any bad driving habits that might have started to crept in. All trainers (roughly 3500) will have been re-trained in 2011/2012 as their certificates hold a two year expiry and all drivers/passenger assistants (Over 100,000) will be re-trained between 2013-2017 as their certificate holds a four year expiry with the new round of training being introduced in 2013.
When attending their refresher not only will they be marked on their driving skills and their ability to transport people with disabilities but they will be sitting a theory paper which has been written for this round of training.

The CTA (Community Transport Association) have recently launched a new training scheme; 5 Steps to Safety; a fire and evacuation course. We feel this is working towards our objective of improving road safety as this course involves what to do if a vehicle fire does occur and the safest and quickest way to evacuate the vehicle.

On any of the training courses above attendants will receive a training handbook which includes all the information they have received on the course and more to allow them have somewhere for reference in the future.

The CTA has an in house training team who promotes the training schemes and liaises with the trainers to ensure they are getting the correct information or any help they require. We have also got over 30 training agents who are high level trainers promoting the training scheme country wide.
