The Belgian Road Safety Institute and The Brewers of Europe are holding a conference on partnerships against drink driving in Europe on Friday, December 3, from 9 am to 2 pm in Brussels. The conference's agenda will follow the three main methods to fight drink driving - enforcement, education, engagement. Furthermore, a presentation and signing ceremony of the European Road Safety Charter will complete the diverse and high-quality programme of the day.
A multi-stakeholder approach to tackling drink driving in the EU has brought tangible results over several decades, including a dramatic fall in drink driving fatalities. However, there is more work to be done. This conference brings together key stakeholders to reflect upon the value that cooperation across the EU delivers, through for example the European Road Safety Charter and voluntary commitments with the European Alcohol and Health Forum. On the eve of dicussion within the Council on the new EU Policy Orientations for 2011-2020 on Road Safety and the start of the UN Decade for Road Safety, high-level participants will highlight best practices and put forward their recommendations to achieve further success in combating drink driving.
Among the expected speakers are e.g. Mr Etienne Schouppe, Belgian State Secretary for Mobility and Transport, and Ms Maria Cristina Marolda from the European Commission Directorate General for Mobility and Transport. Several experts on the field will give inputs on the three main methods to fight drink driving - enforcement, education, engagement.
The conference takes place under the Belgian Presidency and is supported the Belgian Ministry for Mobility and Transport.
