Acting as the representatives of beer producers in Greece, the association endeavours to inform its members on international developments in the brewing industry, review and/or research educational programmes for specialised personnel and promote the industry through seminars and other events regarding the production and distribution of beer. The members of the association employ approximately 2,000 people.
The Greek Brewers Association undertakes to carry out, over the next three years, a campaign to improve road safety during the holidays. In collaboration with the national authorities and the European Brewers Association, the Greek Brewers Association will initiate a safety campaign to raise awareness about the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages. The aim will be to change behaviour and eliminate the problem of drinking and driving. The action will include the publication and promotion of a designated leaflet. The campaign will be targeted primarily at changing the opinions and behaviour of drivers and reducing social acceptance of drinking and driving. The idea of a "designated driver", appointed by the group, who will not drink at all and will drive the car out and back home safely, will be introduced. Attention will be paid to ensure that the campaign does not encourage excessive consumption by non-drivers and there will also be a general message advising against drinking and driving. 20,000 leaflets will be distributed on the main motorways during major holidays, targeting young drivers as they stop at toll booths.
