The Conseil général de Loire-Atlantique has signed the European Road Safety Charter
Patrick Mareschal, President of the Conseil général de Loire-Atlantique (General Council of the Department of Loire-Atlantique), has signed the European Road Safety Charter in the presence of Joël Valmain, a Seconded National Expert (Directorate General for Energy and Transport – European Commission) during the European Road Safety Summer University.
This provided the Conseil général de Loire-Atlantique the opportunity to demonstrate the renewed impetus given to initiatives since 2004 in favour of road safety under a global voluntarist policy.
The European Road Safety Summer University, jointly organised by LASER Europe and the Conseil général de Loire-Atlantique, had 300 participants, 60 of them young European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors.
The highlights of this event were:
- The presentation of the European catalogue of local best practice, “Good Practice Guide for Road Safety in Europe”;
- A round table on the integration of handicapped people into the professional job market through access to a driving licence;
- The launching of the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week;
- Several presentations on the commitments of local European authorities.
Among those participating were Rémi Heitz, Interministerial Delegate for Road Safety, Pascal Smet, Minister of Transport for the Region of Brussels-Capital, and José Capel Ferrer, Director of the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
