Municipality o Thessaloniki - Traffic Directorate
Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece, a major modern port, and an industrial and commercial centre. In 1991 the population was 383,967 inhabitants. The Municipality of Thessaloniki is mainly responsible for: garbage collection, road works, street lighting, school buildings, public parks, kindergartens and nursery schools, immigration office etc. The Traffic Directorate of the Municipality of Thessaloniki is mainly responsible for traffic design, traffic lights, on and off road parking spaces, road design, bus lanes etc.

We continue our commitment to the European Road Safety Charter for the next 3 years. In our effort to reduce road accidents we will carry out the following actions:
- Redesign more than 160 intersections pavement widenings and ramps
- Educate and train 10.000 pupils (young children) at the Municipal Open Traffic Education Centre and publish and distribute over 25.000 leaflets.
The team that has the responsibility for the intersection redesign is the Traffic Design Department and for the pupils education the Municipal Police.
