The Spanish government includes the European Road Safety Charter as part of its road safety action plan for 2011-2020
Activity:

According to an Act signed on the 1st of March 2011 by the Spanish Minister of Interior Affairs Mr. Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba and the Minister of Labour and Integration Mr Valeriano Gómez Sánchez, companies that join the European Road Safety Charter in Spain and commit to develop action plans to reduce traffic accidents in the workplace can benefit from a reduction in their social security contributions.

This new law relates the European Road Safety Charter with national road safety policies. It invites and enables several companies to demonstrate their interest in committing to the initiative and as such to carry out concrete actions to reduce work related traffic accidents. In Spain in 2009 a total of 68,833 work-related road accidents were reported. Of these 283 were fatal.
More than 300 Spanish organizations have embraced the Charter since its inception in 2004, making Spain the most represented country in this initiative.
