As soon as I have read an article about this ERSC contest 2012 I thought to myself: 'It is something for you'. I hope that with this post I can share with all of you my opinion and ideas. To be understood world wide I decided to use English instead of Polish language. For all misspels I apologize. Let's get start.
I was watching short movie about car accidents, the point is how easy not paying attention can broke our life and happines. Watch it here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXq1bbivmbg&list=HL1344360007&feature=mh_...
The material I mentiond were made by Volunteer Fire Department from Wola Rzędzińska (Poland). The film is dedicated to all firemans, emergrency workers and victims of accidents (using materials of Pay attention or pay the price campaign)
What cause so many accidents?
- Driving under influence of the alkohol
Hundreds of preventive campaigns have been made, millons of euro have been spent and the problem still exist, also among youth drivers. In my opinion the situation can be changed! Really. 'But how?' - you may ask. Mostly drunk people before driving home had been spending their time with family or friends. Here I would like to emphasize the importance of those people. Who is more likely to change person's mind: a prevention poster or best friend? I am convinced that the friend. You see your mate who is going to drive after drinking? React! It might be the last time when you see him or her alive. Sad, but true. And even if he or she will survives the accident, there may be othere people who will suffer. Is really the prison the place where you would like to visit your friend? Nope. That is why I frankly believe that the magnitude of that people is enormous.
I study economics in one city and live in another one. It makes me travel about 600 kilometers a week. Sometimes I have the possibility to travel with other students by car. And often I hear the question: 'Do we really need to use seatbelts? It's not an old car and we are with excellent driver'. The only right answer is: 'Yes, please use it all of you'. Even if somebody is really fantastic driver who pay attention everytime there is a group of drivers who do not. And here I have a riddle for you: who has bigger chance to survive during accident? You do not need to be Sherlock Holmes to know the answer.
Nowadays people are in rush, they keep running from one work to another. But is it a reason to behave irresponsible? My dad always says: 'it is better to be a little late at the meeting that a little too early in the grave.' And I totally agree with it. We must be responsible not only for ourselves but also for our comapanions in car.
We love partie, new people and travels. It is obvious. Howeverr, let's remember that long journeys by car especially at monotonous roads and at night cause that even brilliant driver is tired. Good to be in situation when you are with others who could replace you, but what to do when you're with younger siblings for instance? It's simple. Take a break. If your companions will complain just say them why you need this break so badly.
Another reason of accidents with teens are texting messages and listening laud music. It is not a point to say to us: 'Do not text during your way to school ! ' Technology make a huge steep in recent years and I think that it is good. But let's think that it is the person who control mobiles and mp3 devices not devices who control the person! So, saying that you musn't this and you musn't that do not work with youngs. What works with me was that short movie I gave you a link above. It forced me to reflection.
In Poland many teenagers go to school on foot, close to the road. Some of them wear safety vests, the reason why the number of people who wear them is low can be the fact that it's not in fashion. To let it be more popular there should be made a campaign with the most remarkable sport brands. Then, people will follow it more fancy.
All we are young, let's have fun, friends, new ideas and experiences. Let's use possibilities for development. Be responsible. Save what you have the most valuable. Family. Friends. Health. Life.
