15 new entities have committed to the European Road Safety Charter during the National Charter Tour in Bratislava

The first Slovak Republic National Charter Tour organised by the European Road Safety Charter has been held at Hotel Bôrik in Bratislava, on the 25th of January 2011. In the presence of the State secretary Ján Hudacký, Andrea Elscheková-Matisová, the Head of the European Commission Representation in the Slovak Republic, welcomed representatives of more than 35 Slovak entities on the presentation joined with a signing ceremony. 15 Slovakian companies, associations and institutions committed to concrete road safety actions to reduce fatalities and traffic accidents on Slovakian roads. Furthermore 10 previous signatories of the charter renewed their commitments.
 
The State secretary, Ján Hudacký, on behalf of Ján Figeľ - the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Construction, and Regional Development in the Slovak Republic stressed out that even if the number of fatalities decreased in 2010 to 345 people there is still necessity to continue with the effort and improvements in road safety. The state secretary emphasized the need of qualitative developed transport infrastructure. The current status of road infrastructure is characterized by a relatively dense road network, but with a relatively low proportion of higher classes of roads (motorways and expressways) and often is exceeded the existing capacity.
 
Mr. Peter Matúška, Head of the BECEP - Road Safety Unit of Ministry for Transport, Construction and Regional Development in the Slovak Republic, spoke about the direction of road safety in Slovakia. He will appreciate ideas, opinions and problems from the entities on road safety, so that together they will find solutions. The long-term aim of BECEP is to decrease fatalities to zero. Mrs Martine Aitken, European Road Safety Charter Coordinator, presented the Charter initiative, the latest updates in number of signatories and the future developments.
 
The 15 new signatories from the Bratislava event are: Autoklub Slovakia Assistance, s.r.o., DHL Logistics, spol. s r.o., Materská škola Dénešova (Kindergarten Dénešova), Materská škola Plevnik Drienové (Kindergarten Plevnik Drienové), City of Martin, City of Nitra, SHELL Slovakia, s.r.o., SLOVDEKRA s.r.o., Slovenský Červený kríž (Slovakian Red Cross), Slovenský zväz telesne postihnutých (Slovak Union of Physically Disabled People), Slovnaft, a.s., Stredná odborná škola veterinárna (Secondary veterinary school), Stredná priemyselná škola v Snine (Secondary technical school in Snina), U. S. Steel Košice, spol. s.r.o., Únia nevidiacich a slabozrakých Slovenska (Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union).
 
The commitment renewed: Autoklub Slovenskej republiky (The Slovak Republic Automobile Club), City of Bratislava, City of Košice, City of Trnava, Rescue Team Slovakia, Slovenská cestná spoločnosť (The Slovak Road Society), Slovenská komora výcvikových zariadení autoškôl (Slovak chamber of driving school training establishments), Stredná odborná škola Topolčany (The vocational high school Topoľčany), Ústredný automotoklub Slovenská republika, Železnice Slovenskej republiky (The Railways of the Slovak Republic).
 
 
The active road safety network within Slovak republic was very evident at the event proving a willingness to form real alliances and opportunities to communicate road safety practices together. The participants used the event to reaffirm their common goals and dedication to road safety.
