Impegno
During the next three years (2012-2014) the Sport Initiatives Center of Balozi Town will commit to:
1. We will organize annually five rounds of the Balozi cycle safety
(Velosafety) contest from April till October. These annual contests will motivate children to study road safety and teach appropriate behaviour whilst in traffic. The average number of participants will be about 70 children per round.
The Balozi cycle safety (Velosafety) contest includes theoretical tasks and practical bicycling; these are compiled in accordance with the traffic regulations and include developing city short cuts to avoid main city roads and road and traffic signs.
Contestants also perform practical bicycling tasks with 5 to 10 components in each course. Components include cycling on a narrow board, a circle, a figure eight, slalom, change of a lane, a sloping downward board, brake action in a given area etc.
The contest helps children become aware of their safety on the road and to master their bicycling skills. During the contest it is possible to take a test to get a cyclist license. During briefings the competitors'
representatives discuss topical issues of road safety. At the opening and closing of the contest the organizers address children with a talk on road safety. The third round of the contest will be a two days international event. We will send out invitations to almost all schools in Latvia, as well as members of FIA ( Federation Internationale de L’Automobile). Total amount of invitations is about 1200. We are planning to have about 1000 participants all together.
2. Additionally to the annual cycle safety contest we will continue (during the academic year) to organize regular "velosafety" training for children from 7 to 13 twice a week after school classes. These training sessions will help to improve children's knowledge of traffic regulations, road safety and practical bicycling skills. Total number: 210 lessons.
3. We will continue to support Latvian national youth road safety team. We will organize training camps for them to achieve best results in FIA ( Federation Internationale de L’Automobile) European Traffic Education Contest every year. Success of Latvian national youth road safety team encourages others to learn rules of the road traffic and practice cycling skills.
4. We will continue to organize local road safety competition “Winter Cup”, which traditionally is held in December – therefore extends road safety training all over the year.
