Impegno

The city of Helsinki will develop a speed management policy as followed.
Speed management is the key issue to improve traffic safety in the City of Helsinki. The tools for speed management are physical speed reducing measures (humps, elevated zebra crossings, small roundabouts etc.), speed displays and an effective enforcement mainly with mobile camera units.

The magnitude of these measures depends on future legal preconditions connected to camera enforcement. We plan to install in addition to our existing measures and equipment:
-          400-4000 humps (at present 1000)
-          20-200 speed displays (at present 15)
-          5-10 fixed speed and red light cameras (at present 1)
-          0-5 mobile camera units (at present 5, owned by the police)
The use of these alternative strategies (speed management policy) shall be introduced to the City Planning Board in 2009.
Implementation of commitment: 2009-2011
Number of people targeted by our action: 300 000
