Impegno

Shell in Slovakia wants to contribute to the increase of road safety via training of Shell company car drivers and Shell contractors.

 
  • Defensive and safety driving training for Shell company car drivers
Shell company car drivers will be trained in defensive driving by an approved company every two years. The defensive driving training for those staff members will last for one day, consisting of four hours of theory and four hours of practice.
Trained will be:
·  All new employees driving company cars participate in mandatory driving course.
·  Those staff members who have had a road traffic accident during the year will be given supervised driving lessons or refresher courses even if the accident was caused by a third party. Learnings from such incidents are broadly discussed during staff meetings.
 
Parties involved: Employees of Shell Slovakia, Shell Corporate HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, Environment) function, accredited company and professional trainers for defensive and safe driving.
 
  • Set of trainings related to road safety for Shell contractors - road tanker drivers
a.    Defensive Driving Training - road tanker drivers (about 70 people) undergo mandatory induction training, including defensive driving training, and are given refresher courses by an approved company every two years. The defensive driving training lasts for two days in total including theory and practice lessons. Based on assessment and areas for improvement, drivers will be required to receive defensive driving training more frequently. Those who have had road traffic accidents will attend refresh training courses. Lessons learned from traffic accidents are discussed with all truck drivers at weekly and monthly meetings dedicated to road safety. Regular HSSE lessons learned from accidents throughout the worldwide Shell organisation are distributed to all truck drivers. In each garage facility, on the road safety bulletin boards are posted lessons learned from accidents as well as suggestions how to prevent them.
b.      Rollover Prevention Training - required for all regular road tanker drivers. This includes one day training of both theory and practical experience allowing them to test the road tanker limits.
c.       Anti-stress Training - required for all regular road tanker drivers. This includes a 5-hour session with a traffic psychologist discussing stress situations on the road and how to deal with them.
d.      Others: together with contractors Shell will maintain created the Black Spot Map citing the most critical traffic spots (available in contractor's garage facilities) and the System of Defined Routes, which includes the safest routes for transporting our products.
 
Parties involved: Shell road transport contract companies, Distribution Manager of Shell Slovakia, authorised company for defensive driving.
 
  • Shell Safety Days initiated globally once per year and implemented in markets including Slovakia.
The goal of these events is to re-energize and refocus the company efforts to improve safety performance including personal safety driving - with personal commitments reviewed twice a year. The activities are focused on employees, site staff at retail sites and contractors aiming to improve the way we work and helping to prevent injuries and accidents - perhaps even save lives. We believe it will help to create a proactive generative culture within the organisation, where safety is proactive behaviour of all our employees.
Events are organized in a form of staff engagement meetings, where basic 12 live saving rules (e.g. drugs and alcohol policy, speed limits etc.) are discussed, learning points from incidents including road safety accidents are reviewed. Shell Safety Days includes First Aid trainings leaded by Medical Advisor. Special sessions are organized for contractor's staff and Shell retail station staff.
 
Parties involved: Shell Slovakia employees, contractors, retail site staff, accredited company and professional trainers for defensive and safe driving, first aid etc.
