Lower Secondary School located in Crotone

Over the course of the next three years, the Istituto Comprensivo Statale Alcmeone, in order to foster greater awareness of traffic regulations and to boost road safety, commits to:

• Improving our methods with new experimental initiatives on road safety from preschool to lower middle school. These activities will have a specific road safety topic for every year, which will be worked on according to the educational level of all registered students (approximately three classes at preschool level, three classes at middle school level and six classes at elementary school level). During one of the three years of the planned project, we intend to ascertain the accident rate in each of the schools’ neighbourhoods, so that the students, in collaboration with their parents and shopkeepers in the area, study the dynamics of the accidents that have occurred and draw up proposals for traffic mitigation measures to be submitted to the City Council.
• Organising a contest for a calendar on road safety to be published by the local authorities, with the aim of reaching an adult audience as well.
• Supplying information on the European Road Safety Charter through our website, which will be improved by the addition of more information on the European Road Safety Charter. To this end, a special section dedicated to road safety will be created on the website to illustrate the most important aspects of our educational model, with the aim of fostering the exchange of the best practices and information from other EU countries. This section will be in Italian and English.
