Qrendi Scout Group, a non governmental organisation for young people of ages varying between 5 to 18 years, belonging to forty scout groups spread thoughout MALTA.

A recent and horrific road accident within our community has robbed five youths in our community of their lives. Youths between the ages of 15 and 18 years lost their lives when being transported in an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, travelling at speed.

We think more effort is needed to educate road users and pedestrians about the proper use of our roads and highways, and the dangers and hazards that one can experience in improper use and non- observance of the Highway Code.

1. We will educate and inform all our scouts about road safety and will encourage them to pass on their knowledge and skills to their families and friends at school, creating a ripple effect and reaching a wider audience. The information and education plan will be organised on an annual basis so that Qrendi Scouts to reach its present and future members that join the scout group. The method to be adopted will be both theoretical and practical. Tutorial sessions will be carried out at the group's headquarters and practical sessions will be carried out as outdoor activities with the help of the traffic police department.
   The initiative is to form part of the group's scouting programme, whereby printed material will be handed out and our members will be encouraged to seek additional information on the Internet during their free time.



2. The Qrendi Scout group will prepare a specialised road safety pack in a "game form", i.e. featuring picture documents, quizzes and crossword puzzles, enabling scouts to learn through practice, making it fun to acquire knowledge about road safety which will be useful throughout their lives. All of the cub scout (aged 8 to 10) and scout (aged 10 to 15) sections of the Qrendi Scout Group are being encouraged to actively participate in the road safety programme. The group comprises between 50 and 60 scouts.
   
   We are encouraging our members to pass on their acquired skills and knowledge to others, in order to create a better awareness of such road safety hazards, accidents and deaths.
