During the event, Sergio Iritale highlighted the active contribution made by the Crotone region (in Calabria, in the south of Italy) to combat road hazards: “The Provincial Authority of Crotone, which is already a signatory of the European Road Safety Charter, has launched an ERSC dissemination and subscription activity, which has contributed, in the light of the objectives set and the results obtained, to the development of an embryonic awareness as to the need to create the necessary conditions to protect the lives of drivers. The awareness message, which constitutes the main support for the provincial project, entails the direct involvement of public and private bodies in the Province of Crotone, and has gradually spread to encourage participation and cooperation in an organised system of concentric circles, within which the smallest circles have inevitably had to involve the larger circles to carry out actions in the field, each organised into three-year projects”.

These distinguished ERSC actors have sponsored 31 new signatories, including 15 cities in the Crotone region, as well as four additional institutions, nine companies (including three driving schools), two media companies and one association. All of these signed the ERSC on the occasion of this ceremony, undertaking to carry out concrete road safety actions.
The European Road Safety Charter now includes commitments made by the following: Associazione C.I.S. Pitagora, Antonio Leuzzi I Parrucchieri, Autoscuola Crotonese, A. N. Auto, Autoscuola Europa, Azienda Agricola Ceraudo, Sodamoto, Cantine Riunite del Cirò e del Melissa, Autoscuola Pitagora, M.D.S srl, Istituto Comprensivo Statale ALCMEONE, Comune di Crotone, Comune di Cutro, Comune di Roccabernarda, Comune di Cirò Marina, Comune di Belvedere Spinello, Comune di Santa Severina, Comune di Pallagorio, Comune di Mesoraca, Comune di Verzino, Istituto Sant’Anna, Comune di Carfizzi, Comune di Melissa, Comune di Scandale, Comune di Petilia Policastro, Comune di Crucoli, Confindustria, Ordine degli Ingegneri Provincia di Crotone, Il Crotonese, Radio Studio 97.

Sergio Iritale concluded that they would constitute “an important starting point, because what is currently known as civic duty, education, information and awareness will soon become an everyday approach to protect human lives”.
