The Municipality of Torres Vedras covers a Lisbon district and is responsible for asset management and public services in the municipality of Torres Vedras in Portugal. The Municipality has approximately 79,500 inhabitants. Approximately 734 employees are working for the Municipality.
We intend to contribute to the reduction of at least 50% of road deaths by 2015, and therefore we commit to promote actions to improve the behavior of pedestrians and drivers as well as improve the safety of road infrastructure in our county.
As such we propose:
1 - The creation of the Municipal Road Safety observatory;
2 - The development of the Municipal Road Safety Plan;
3 - Organization of free refresher training sessions on road regulations. These will be directed to professional drivers of the Municipality and transport companies based in the county;
4 - The organization of awareness campaigns for children and young people about road safety. These actions will be directed to the children of primary schools in particular to those of the 3rd and 4th years. They will cover topics such as behavior as pedestrians, and the road safety basics.
5 - The organization of awareness-raising activities for senior citizens on the care of pedestrians and the driving of agricultural vehicles as well as other motorized vehicles;
6 - The promotion of awareness campaigns for the nightlife establishments, aimed at young and adult drivers and focusing on the effects of alcohol and drugs when driving.
During the various campaigns awareness raising material will be distributed. This will be educational, promotional and informative about the various topics presented in the campaigns.
