Commitment
- It is evident that road safety measures are insufficient.
We will therefore undertake initiatives to step up these measures. We will install CVT speed monitoring devices on traffic lights. These consist of automatic speed control systems that inform drivers when they exceed the established speed limit.
These equipped traffic lights will serve a dual purpose: they will assist the police forces in targeted control of citizen road use and will provide real time speed reports for every stretch of road being monitored. (Period in which this will be carried out: 1/9/2006 – 28/2/2008). - In order to promote the dissemination of a road safety culture, we will carry out information / awareness-raising campaigns and talks addressing the public at large (and students in particular), as well as technical staff of other public administration offices in Italy.
In the month of May 2006, the first national conference, organised by the municipal administration, will be held in Terni. There will be two different themes: the first aiming to provide information for drivers; and the second dealing with infrastructure measures, with specific reference to the future European Directive that is now being defined. (Period in which this will be carried out: 1/9/2006 – 28/2/2009). - To reduce the number of accidents on the road network, measures must be carried out to improve the infrastructure. With this aim, we will build three roundabouts, four central reserves and numerous protected pedestrian crosswalks.
Following a thorough analysis of the conditions of the road surface, modified bitumen will be applied to improve tyre adherence to the road surface. (Period in which this will be carried out: 1/9/2006 – 28/2/2008).
Over the course of the next three years, we will carry out the above measures, initiating a process of constant accident reduction that will continue in forthcoming years.
