The amateur sport association known as Circolando is active in the sporting, social and cultural spheres, in addition to working in the field of sustainable mobility through the organisation in Rome of the BIMBIMBICI national event for the past five years.
The association has 300 members.
In mid-2011, with the assistance of teachers from nursery, primary and secondary schools in the Rome 6 municipality, we will launch a course comprising five one-hour lessons. We will target four primary schools, involving ten teachers and 400 children. Each class will be taught a course, to be distributed throughout the school year.
These lessons will also involve the participation of volunteers who help children cross roads outside schools. Children will gain greater confidence with these people, and a form of interaction will be established in order to avoid dangerous road situations. The Municipality of Rome will provide support in order to inform these volunteer lollipop men and women about the initiative.
Furthermore, we will be assisted by driving schools, which will give the children demonstrations on how roads can be dangerous if the necessary precautions are not taken. These demonstrations will take place in the school playground with the agreement of the teachers.
Again through driving schools, we will seek to obtain specific material on the civil code and perhaps even give children the opportunity to answer a simple quiz, similar to the driving licence theory test.
The main objective of these mini-courses will be to raise awareness, without traumatising children, about how dangerous it is even to step outside the front door.
The first session of courses will start in March 2011, and the last will be held in June 2011. The aim is to continue the initiative over the coming years.
