This Association, in Rome, provides a link between the experts and people concerned to mobility and transportation problems.
The objective is to serve and implement safety, speedness and comfort in mobility with respect of the environment and the rational use of energy.
Commitment
The Associazione Italiana per l'Ingegneria del Traffico e dei Trasporti has detected a certain degree of neglect on behalf of the administration regarding the maintenance of urban streets and the renovation of traffic systems.
Therefore, in order to raise awareness among both the local and central administration regarding the proper maintenance of urban streets and improved organisation of traffic, we have decided to arrange a Meeting/Workshop on Road Safety providing data on the expenditure of the local administrations of major Italian cities for road maintenance and traffic signs.
It will be held between 01/01/2006 and 01/06/2006, in cooperation with members of the AIIT and with the Fondazione Luigi Guccione.
Moreover, having ascertained greater differences among planning regulations in the urban and suburban spheres, we have decided to propose a revision of planning regulations.
The initiative which we intend to carry out to this end consists of drawing up a proposal for the integration of current regulations on road construction leading to improved road safety in the urban area, which would then be submitted to the Ministry, as well as the initiation of dialogue with road safety associations.
All of this will be carried out between 01/01/2006 and 01/12/2006, in cooperation with the members of the AIIT.
Due to the limited sensibility of the university community on the issue of safety in road planning and organisation in the urban sphere, we will promote a scholarship for Traffic Engineering dissertations concerning Road safety.
The aim of this initiative is to raise the awareness of the academic world on the importance of road safety.
This initiative will be carried out between 01/03/2006 and 01/03/2007, in cooperation with the members of the AIIT and the Public Universities of Rome and Milan.
Once these programmes have been completed, we will evaluate the results obtained in order to resume such initiatives on road safety in the future.
