Glasgow, with a population of around 600,000, is Scotland's largest city and is the commercial capital of Scotland. The City Council works with partner agencies including Scottish Enterprise, the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley Tourist Board, Greater Glasgow Health Board, public sector organisations, educational institutions and the private and voluntary sectors.

To deliberately take the initiative of implementing measures going beyond the regulatory requirements in force, namely :

• Establish part-time mandatory 20mph speed limits outside all Glasgow's 258 schools to reduce the average speed by an average of 8 km/h;.

• Report each year on the progress made in implementing this commitment and on its impact on improving road safety.
