Genova Council generally represents the Community of Genova in its relation with the State, Liguria region, District itself, other public and private subjects. It is also responsible for international relations. Genova Council defends the interest and promotes the developement of all the people in the territory.

To deliberately take the initiative of implementing measures going beyond the regulatory requirements in force, namely, during the next three years:

• Implementing the project "Safe home-to-school itineraries" which consist in achieving 9 home-to-school safer itineraries, to connect 54 schools, libraries, recreational centres. The city will then monitor the impact of these measures on road safety, report on the results of this monitoring process and evaluate the opportunity to extend this project to the rest of the city if the results are positive;
• Creating an urban road observatory for road safety. The observatory will monitor the efficiency of interventions. It will facilitate the exchange of technical information and statistics between public and private operators to evaluate cause effect dynamics in order to made up preventive measures. The observatory will also allow for training students and teachers in the framework of the project "Genoa is young and safe", through:
  • Conferences for teachers (60 teachers are expected to attend them in 2004);
  • Conferences for students (450 pupils are expected to attend them in 2004);
  • Virtual driving lessons (around 250 students are expected to take them in 2004);
  • Meetings with the general public, involving professionals of public safety and emergency services (200 persons are expected to attend these meetings I 2004).

    The city aims at progressively covering all the schools of its territory with this project.

• Initiating the project to create a regional road observatory for road safety, support actively this project and coordinate its preparation for the region to submit it to the ministry;
• Reporting annually on the progresses made in implementing this commitment.
