To launch and co-ordinate, in cooperation with Access-Eurocities network the SAFE campaign. The Safe campaign aims at supporting local authorities in Europe to sign the European Road Safety Charter. For Polis it consists over three years in :

• Co-ordinating the involvement of local authorities in the European Road Safety Programme and their adhesion to the European Road Safety Charter * Supporting local authorities in designing local strategies for road safety;
• Organizing public signing ceremonies of the European Road Safety Charter, the first of which in London on April 7th, 2004, on world road safety day ;
• Introducing road safety presentation in Polis events, and especially in ITSurban seminars and training workshops. The programme of ITSurban seminars and workshops in 2004 include seminar in Gijon (Spain, 13 May 2004) targeting Spanish cities, in Vienna (Austria, 14-15 June 2004) targeting Central and Eastern European cities, in Clermont-Ferrand (France, 16-17 September 2004), targeting a francophone audience of local authorities, and a round table in Brussels in November 2004.
• Identifying and gathering local authorities’ best practices to create a SAFE handbook and disseminate them via elecronic and/or printing media;
• Having a minimum of one page on Polis website devoted to road safety and referring to the European Road Safety Charter and the European Road Safety programme.
