Istituto Tecnico per le Costruzioni, l'Ambiente ed il Territorio Nicolo' Tartaglia
The institutional mission of the college is to teach land engineering from an environmental protection perspective. Since 2004, it has been the centre for road safety education for the entire province of Brescia, coordinating 344 teachers in schools of all kinds. It has 77 teaching and 16 non-teaching members of staff.
Commitment
The Istituto Tecnico per le Costruzioni, l'Ambiente ed il Territorio N. Tartaglia will undertake, among others, the following essential road safety actions over the next three years:
- Coordinate courses and examinations for the moped driver’s licence, targeting approximately 5,000 students.
- Organise conferences for the road safety teachers.
- Increase the number of road safety teachers (currently 344).
- Extend projects to initiate road safety curricula for pre-school pupils.
- Memorandum of understanding with AIFVS, which allows its representatives to contact 6,500 college students for two-hour meetings on road accidents and their consequences (sole activity planned in Italy).
- Carry out a project on new road safety strategies, funded by the Foundation for the Community of Brescia, targeting 10,000 students.
- Partnership with the Regional Emergency Services Organisation to undertake the regional open access project entitled “Centrali aperte”, targeting 1,000 students who can visit the emergency facilities in hospitals.
- Implement feasibility studies and design permanent road safety education parks (one soon to be inaugurated).
- Coordinate, for the fourth consecutive year, the project organised by the Brescia Municipal Police Force with the White Cross and the Fire Brigade, involving the participation of 50 fifth-year students in police activities on Saturday nights.
- Safe driving courses for newly qualified drivers, involving approximately 500 participants.
- Cooperate in the project entitled “La catena della vita” [chain of life] together with volunteer associations, police forces and others, and coordinate the project in schools in Brescia. Open to all secondary schools.
- Cooperate in the drafting and dissemination of the OFF THE ROAD newspaper in conjunction with 118 [emergency services] and several journalists writing for national daily newspapers.
- Organise the event entitled “In strada e in pista vincono le regole” [rules come first on the road and the racetrack] in conjunction with ACIBrescia for all secondary schools.
- Partnership with the Chief of the Local Police Force of Brescia in the organisation of five theatre performances on road safety.
- Raise awareness about European Night Without Accident on 16 October 2010, organised by the European association RYD.
- Cooperate in the regional networking project among secondary schools in 12 Lombardy provinces, aimed at increasing the standardisation of actions in school on the issue.
- Support the Active Sport project on disability following road accidents for all schools in Brescia.
The activities will be coordinated by Tiziana Pasini, the teacher in charge of the working group that signed the road safety memorandum of understanding on 16 March 2004. The technical staff update the school website, used as a support by schools and students throughout the province of Brescia, and provide training on the driving simulator.
