Commitment
Over the following years:
1. We will conduct road safety campaigns aimed at reducing road risks. The campaigns will focus on preventive testing for alcohol and drug consumption whilst driving, speeding control, school transport and two-wheel vehicles control, the use of mobile phones as well as helmet, seatbelt and child restraint systems control. The campaigns will happen at the same time as the ones conducted by the DGT (Traffic Agency) at a national level, but, in addition, they will complement each other by repeating themselves during other months. More exactly, the alcohol and drug campaigns will be conducted every day of the year, undertaking to carry out more than 1,500 tests on drivers.
2. We will improve traffic accidents’ victim assistance from the Research and Road Safety Unit. The Unit will have at least one telephone contact with the victim, family members or guardian, in order to gather information about the extent of the injury. They will also provide information about the formalities to be performed after the accident, such as the joint intervention procedure with the Victim Assistance Service, thus facilitating access to the existing municipal services. The Victim Assistance Service’s role is to keep track of the victim and assist with cases of fatalities, serious injuries or victims who find themselves in a special situation of helplessness because of not being backed by the insurance companies, such as pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation passengers etc.
3. The Road Safety Park of the Local Police will conduct annual road safety courses aimed at Primary and Secondary Schools as well as special education students, road safety on mopeds, road safety education and training for the senior citizens, for newly admitted Police Officers, for Civil Protection volunteers, courses for leisure organizers-monitors and courses to offset fines for those under 30 years of age.
We will benefit from the annual participation of approximately 4,500 students.
All this with the aim of reducing traffic casualties in the municipality of Alcobendas. In 2011 there were a total of 1,023 traffic accidents, resulting in 311 minor injuries, 30 serious ones and 1 death.
